Loop Head Peninsula Project Platform
Putting the Loop Head Regional Development Strategy into Action
The story so far...
After many conversations and discussions, the Loop Head Regional Development Strategy (LRDS) was published in 2021. Its goal: To reverse the depopulation on the Loop and make our home an ever better and sustainable place to live, and share the beauty and benefits of living on the Loop Head Peninsula to attract people home and motivate remote workers to relocate here.
Since then some time has passed. During this time a lot has happened, including some very exciting projects like Hemp4Soil, the Querrin Nature Observation Point and the inaugural Wild Loop Head Nature Weekend as well as the publication of Marc Ó Riain's wonderful 'The Last of the Light'.
But this is only the start. To work towards the common goal and to make Loop Head a sustainable place to live and work, we need dreams and ideas and turn them into tangible projects. This website features a first set of possible projects that have been captured together with Loop Head residents of all ages and all walks of life.
These project ideas along with projects currently underway or completed are listed below and are intended to be a starting point to form project teams to further develop the ideas and subsequently implement the projects.

The creation of the Loop Head Peninsula Project Catalogue is a Creative Commons exercise that was facilitated under funding obtained by the Carrigaholt Development Association (CDA) who gratefully received LEADER funding from CLDC. Anyone who wants to can build on this. The work this year is being conducted by AstonECO Management in partnership with some of the many community-based partners on the Loop Head Peninsula. The 10% community co-founding was covered by the CDA and by Councillor Cillian Murphy from his discretionary fund.
